From Chaos to Clean: Bathroom Cleaning Checklists for a Fresh Space

Some people enjoy cleaning the kitchen or washing dishes, while others may find vacuuming therapeutic.

But we’re willing to bet the number of people who actually enjoy cleaning their bathroom is exponentially reduced.

We get it. Cleaning the bathroom isn’t exactly a glamorous job.

The secret to keeping your bathroom looking immaculate is a well-planned cleaning schedule and a bathroom cleaning checklist.

Keep reading to discover how, with just a little intention and some cleverly applied tips, you too can enjoy a shining bathroom day in and day out.

What Does Bathroom Cleaning Include?

A bathroom cleaning should include different tasks depending on whether it’s a more frequent maintenance cleaning or a deep clean. The most basic bathroom maintenance cleaning should include tasks like:

  • Cleaning showers, baths, sinks, mirrors, floors, and vanities

  • Sanitizing high-touch surfaces like toilets, light switches, and door handles

  • Removing garbage

If you’re using a cleaning service, the inclusions of bathroom cleaning should be fully transparent to ensure your needs are being met.

At Tidy Up Portland! we’re committed to transparency and provide a checklist for every package. If you don’t find what you need on our checklist, you can always select from our list of extras at booking to customize your cleaning options. Get a quote or book services online today!

Maintain a Clean and Orderly Bathroom With These Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Bathroom Cleaning Checklists

Waiting until the last minute to clean the bathroom can be a nightmare when it comes to scrubbing the unsightly ring in the toilet or bathtub. No matter how often you clean your bathroom, you can follow these bathroom cleaning checklists.

Follow these bathroom cleaning checklists for daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleanings to keep your tasks organized and bathroom pristine.

Daily Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Doing small things daily to keep your bathroom tidy will help when it comes time to do the real cleaning. Daily tasks that add up include:

  • Declutter and organize items on countertops.

  • Hang up towels.

  • Quickly wipe down countertops and sink from debris and toothpaste spills.

  • Wipe down and dry the shower walls and glass doors with a squeegee.

  • If you’re a parent of a young child, dry bath toys to avoid mold or mildew.

  • Ward off germs during cold and flu season by disinfecting surfaces like toilets, light switches, and door handles.

Weekly Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Weekly bathroom cleaning helps get rid of dirt, odors, and stains that can become stubborn if ignored.

Tasks like these can be done before you’ve finished your morning coffee:

  • Clean and disinfect the countertops and sink.

  • Clean and unclog sink and shower drains.

  • Clean and disinfect the toilet.

  • Clean the shower and/or bathtub.

  • Vacuum the rugs.

  • Mop the floors.

  • Wash towels, including hand towels.

  • Wipe down and sanitize light switches, door handles, and faucets.

  • Empty the trash can.

  • Refill toilet paper, hand soap, and other supplies.

Monthly Deep Cleaning Bathroom Checklist

It’s time to do your monthly bathroom deep clean, and this is when you’re really going to thank yourself for doing the daily and weekly cleaning.

The following tasks should be a breeze:

  • Thoroughly scrub the shower and/or bathtub.

  • Scrub tile grout.

  • Wipe the mirrors clean.

  • Wash rugs, shower mats, shower curtains, and liners.

  • Clean the baseboards and windows.

  • Dust the light fixtures.

  • Reorganize drawers, cupboards, and the medicine cabinet.

  • Check under the sink for leaks or mold and mildew growth.

  • Dust, unclog, and clean the air vents.

Seasonal Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Some bathroom cleaning tasks only need to be done a few times a year. Adding these jobs to your monthly cleaning routine now and then will help you keep your bathroom organized and germ-free all year long:

  • Wash the trash bin every couple of months. Empty the can, then add a few drops of liquid dish soap and mix it in with warm water. Let it soak and wipe dry using a paper towel.

  • If your bathroom counters or shower surfaces are made of marble or granite, you will need to reseal them every few months using a commercial sealer. You can find a resealer at your local home improvement store, usually for under $30. Not sure if your granite needs resealing? Drip a few drops of water on it; if the water remains in small water drops, your granite is still sealed. If the water soaks in, it’s time to reseal.

  • Check and throw out old medication. Many people don’t give it much thought, but medications and toiletries do expire. Every couple of months, while you’re organizing your medicine cabinet, make a point to check the expiration date on your medications and toiletries. Toss out expired items. You don’t want to risk having an adverse reaction if you use it.

  • The exhaust fan is often overlooked when deep cleaning the bathroom. It’s important to clean the exhaust fan at least every six months. Dirty exhaust fans can become less effective, and you risk a buildup of moisture, which can lead to mold problems in your bathroom. Cleaning your bathroom exhaust fan is easier than you think. For safety, first turn off the power using the circuit breaker. Grab your protective eyewear and a trash bin before you unscrew the vent cover. Use a microfiber towel to brush off any dust, then dip the cover in warm, soapy water. Make sure the cover is completely dry before screwing it back on.

Work Smarter, Not Harder, With These Bathroom Cleaning Tips

Follow these tips to make your routine cleaning even easier:

  • Use an app to schedule your routine cleaning. If you have a busy schedule, utilize a task app to help keep you on track. Or you can set regular reminders in your phone using our lists of tasks.

  • Save your old toothbrushes for getting into hard-to-reach spots and gently scrubbing away stains.

  • Soak your shower heads in vinegar to remove caked-on hard water stains and lime. If you can remove your shower head, let it soak in diluted white vinegar in a bowl; if not, just fill a freezer bag with the solution and tie it off with a rubber band. Let the vinegar do the work and return it to its original shine.

  • Keep a squeegee in your shower to make wiping your shower and glass door convenient and easy. Just before you step out of the shower, give it a quick swipe to stop soap scum from accumulating and keep your shower doors streak-free.

  • Line your bathroom trash cans with multiple trash bags or leave the bag attached to the roll and drop it in the bottom of the bin to make trash day easy.
